Is stress taking over your life? Do you find your energy down at all times because of stress? Well, it is about time you say “Enough.” It is about time you start a game plan for reducing stress. It is about time you learn and apply these five best stress relief techniques.
1. Meditation.
Mindfulness meditation, in particular, includes being completely engaged in the present moment. It changes how the brain processes things. And if done correctly, areas in the brain associated to joy and relaxation are strengthened while negative areas are weakened.
When meditating, you do not analyze or over-think a particular experience. Some stress relief techniques in this category include body scan, walking meditation, and mindful eating. Now, take note that meditation is not synonymous to zoning out. It is maintaining awareness on the present moment.
2. Visualization.
This technique shows you how powerful our minds could be. Visualization, also called guided imagery, is a twist on your conventional meditation. This technique requires for one to imagine a scene, which encourages a feeling of peacefulness and relieves anxiety. This can be in the form of a tropical beach or a quiet meadow. You can do this technique on your own or with the help of a therapist. There are also audio recordings that are made especially to help you with visualization.
3. Deep Breathing.
Breathing, as normal as it may seem, is one of the most vital stress relief methods you can use. Deep breathing oxygenates your blood, thereby making it easier on your muscles to relax, for your brain to be more active, and for your mind to be quieter. Breathing deeply is something that you learn over time. You can begin with practicing some 20 to 30 minutes of deep breathing daily. This will do well when you pair it up with some meditation done in a quiet or secluded area in your home or office.
4. Yoga and Tai chi.
Both exercises have been around for a long time for a reason. Yoga and Tai chi are excellent stress relief techniques for stress relief, as they involve flowing movement and deep breathing.
Yoga provides you with a natural stress-coping habit and relaxation response. Before signing up for yoga, you must properly evaluate your fitness level. Likewise, always consult your physician before joining.
Tai chi is composed on slow and flowing body movements, which highlight relaxation, concentration, and a conscious circulation of your “chi” or vital energy throughout your body. Because it is a low-impact exercise, tai chi is a good option for any person, regardless of age or fitness level. Even those recovering from injuries can take up tai chi.
5. Find Balance.
This is one of the things that most of us consider to be easier said than done. But who says you cannot try, right? Stress is a by-product of the imbalance you are exposed to. To achieve balance, make a list of your priorities and throw out the distractions. Then, of course, do not limit your quest for balance in your activities alone; include it in your health as well. Some of the most effective stress relief techniques are those that involve your health. Adopt a well-balanced diet and take everything in moderation.
